OMEGA - Lot 114
OMEGA Watch of hairy in silver 900 thousandths with mechanical movement. - Silver cushion case, smooth bezel, fluted crown, clipped back. - White enamel dial, minute track and Arabic numerals painted in black, radium hands, small second at 6 o'clock. - Black leather strap, metal pin buckle. Case and dial signed. Movement: mechanical with manual winding. Movement numbered 4.926.469 (circa 1916) Case numbered 5.749.607 (circa 1917) Diameter: 30 mm With its large dial for the time and its luminescent "radium skeleton" hands, this watch made it possible to read the time even at night or in poor lighting conditions. Radium is a radioactive and dangerous material, and its application was the cause of serious health problems in the factories and the watchmakers. A similar model can be found on an advertisement for the famous Kirby Beard store (5, rue Auber in Paris) under the name "Curved square shape, leather strap, luminous dial", dated 1913 and reproduced in the book Omega. Voyage dans le temps on page 107. A similar watch (lot 34) was sold at the Omegamania sale on April 14-15, 2007 by Antiquorum for CHF 3,776. Condition report: Good general condition, hair on the dial, wear scratches and patina on the case, the watch does not work, no guarantee of functioning over time, a service recommended.
