Pablo GARGALLO (1881-1934) Mask of Picasso, 1913 Original lost-wax bronze Cast during the artist's lifetime, circa 1930 After the original stone sculpture in the Museum of Modern Art, Barcelona By the Barcelona foundryman Gimeno Bears the mark V GIMENO FUN[dición] 20.5 x 19.5 x 14.5 cm Provenance: - Cast during the artist's lifetime by the founder V Gimeno-Blanes, artistic director of the Tanagra foundry in L'Hospitalet (Barcelona) - Given or sold by the artist to Llorens Artigas (1892-1980), the famous Barcelona ceramist and friend of Gargallo, around 1930 - Sold by Llorens Artigas to Yves Revelli, French sculptor (1898-1971), around 1945 - Sold at auction by the Revelli heirs at Carvajal, in Antibes, on May 2, 2015, lot 90 Certificate of Authenticity: - The work was the subject of a certificate of authenticity by Mr. Jean Anguerra Gargallo, grandson of the artist, on November 6, 2014, which states that "its recent discovery did not allow it to be listed under No. 49a devoted to Picasso's Mask in the catalog raisonné prepared by Pierrette Anguerra Gargallo, for the Editions de l'Amateur in 1998 ". - On March 28, 2022, Mr. Jean Anguerra Gargallo made an addition to his first certificate to specify the name of the founder that had not been deciphered in 2014. - Certificate of Mrs. Virginie Journiac, expert CECOA, FNEPSA and CEDEA, which specifies that this print is indeed an "original bronze of Gargallo", executed in a unique edition, and not a posthumous edition "after Gargallo" as it is the case of the edition of 7 copies realized around 1954 by the founder Busato (Paris). The Centre Pompidou owns bronze no. 3/7 of this posthumous edition, currently on deposit at the Musée d'art et d'industrie "La Piscine" in Roubaix. This document will be given to the winning bidder.
