NASA. Voyager 1 mission. Superb mosaic photograph of the planet Jupiter taken by the Voyager 1 space probe from a distance of 12 million kilometers. The Galilean moons Europa (left), Ganymede (center) and Io are visible. The shadow of Io is just beginning to cross the cloud tops of Jupiter on the right. In addition to the main moons, the ring moon Amalthea and its eclipsing shadow are also visible on the cloud tops of Jupiter. They are located almost along the equator. Amalthea is located almost in the center of a large plume in the equatorial zone, while its shadow is visible on a band of dark clouds at the equator.
