American Bruce McCandless, performs an extravehicular activity (EVA) while floating away from the space shuttle CHALLENGER (Mission STS-84) on February 11, 1984. This extraordinary photograph was taken from inside the aft flight deck of the U.S. Space Shuttle. Using his hands to control his movements in space while operating the nitrogen-powered maneuvering unit (MMU). McCandless floats without tethers that connect him to the shuttle. McCandless gets so close to the Shuttle that the reflection of the Shuttle in McCandless' helmet is visible. February 1984.period chromogenic print. Numbering on the front.
