FRENCH REVOLUTION - Collection of 8 plays, patriotic vaudevi - Lot 46
FRENCH REVOLUTION - Collection of 8 plays, patriotic vaudevilles: Plaquettes in-8 bound with modern covers bearing the bookplate of A. Barthelemy and gathered in a box: 1/Fabre d'Eglantine: Les Précepteurs, 1799, 76 pp.; 2/Bouquier: La réunion du dix août ou l'inauguration de la République Française, sanculotide dramatique, 1793 42 pp. 3/Bizet: les boîtes ou la conspiratuion des mouchoirs, 1794, 24 pp.; 4/Bergasse et Chastenet de Puységur: la journée des dupes...1790, 86 pp. Under a title alluding to the day of the dupes of 1630, the presumed authors of this play present a gallery of characters of which only Mounier "virtuous citizen" and La Pérouse (emblematic character of whom Louis XVI would have asked for news at the time of going to the scaffold) bear their real name. The others, under transparent pseudonyms, don't really have the best role. They are for example Bimeaura (Mirabeau), Laibil (Bailly) or Yetafet (La Fayette). Also included is a troop of brigands, "so-called nation". 5/Rézicourt and Lemoine: the true sans-culottes or the republican hospitality, patriotic picture...1793, 32 pp. 6/Laujon: the convent or the fruits of the character and the education. 1790, 68 pp. and a frontispiece. 7/Ronsin: Aretaphile or the revolution of Cyrene...1793, 72 pp. 8/Chastenet de Puységur: The interior of a republican household. 1793, 36 pp. Scattered foxing and small defects but overall a good copy.
