Georges de GRECE (1869-1957, Prince of Greece and Denmark, A - Lot 205
Georges de GRECE (1869-1957, Prince of Greece and Denmark, Admiral, Husband of the psychoanalyst Marie Bonaparte) / Autograph letter signed, 3 p in-8, Saint-Cloud, July 26, 1918, to the American painter Manuel Barthold (1874-1947) / "Dear artist, I thank you very cordially for your letter of July 19 and it is with pleasure that I learn that you are doing well. You are very kind to ask about us. We are all well; the whooping cough has diminished considerably although it still persists. To cure it we have also thought of going somewhere else, to get a change of air. Please don't torment yourself with the idea that my wife had contracted whooping cough at home. It is really not worth it, for first of all it is not a bad thing to have suffered from one of these childish diseases and consequently to no longer live in the expectation of always being able to contract it, and then my wife, still persisting in the search for the causes, has now been able to establish that she caught whooping cough not at your place, but at the place of her stockbroker, who, although he had it, hid it carefully. We are very glad of the new and happy turn of events at the front and are in full admiration of the fine conduct of your countrymen, the American soldiers who are covering themselves with glory wherever they fight."
