NASA. LARGE FORMAT. HUBBLE TELESCOPE. High definition panora - Lot 286
NASA. LARGE FORMAT. HUBBLE TELESCOPE. High definition panoramic view of the Andromeda galaxy by Hubble. This bird's-eye view of a portion of the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) is the largest composite image ever made of our galactic neighbor, the largest image ever assembled by the Hubble Space Telescope. Although the galaxy is more than 2 million light-years away, the Hubble Space Telescope is powerful enough to resolve individual stars in a 61,000 light-year long portion of the galaxy's pancake-shaped disk. It's like taking a picture of a beach and being able to make out individual grains of sand. And there are a lot of stars in this overview - more than 100 million, including some in the thousands of star clusters visible in the disk. This ambitious photographic mapping of the Andromeda Galaxy represents a new benchmark for precision studies of large spiral galaxies, which dominate the universe's population of more than 100 billion galaxies. Never before have astronomers been able to see individual stars within an outer spiral galaxy over such a large contiguous area. Most of the stars in the universe live inside these majestic stellar cities, and this is the first data to reveal populations of stars in the context of their home galaxy. 2015.vintage chromogenic print. Numbering in the margin on the front. 60.4 X 40.6CM with margins.
