Old photo of Captain Smith, commander of the R.M.S. Titanic (White Star Line). Yellowed photo with some foxing on both sides, inserted on its cardboard covered with a stained glass paper stamped with the arms of the White Star Line. - On April 1st 1912 Edward John Smith, hired by the White Star Line in 1886, took command of the Titanic for her sea trials near Belfast. However, bad weather forced him to postpone them until the next day, then to shorten them to meet the deadlines for commissioning the liner. After the main tests, the ship left Belfast for Southampton where she arrived in the night of April 3 to 4, 1912. * Original black and white photo, slightly yellowed with some foxing - photo size 16 X 11 cm. * Cardboard and stained glass paper size 15 X 21 cm.
