154 - SAINT DOMINGUE. Piece signed Charles-Théodat d'ESTAING, Cie, Comte d'Estaing, Cie, Marquis de la Terisse, Chevalier des Ordres du Roi, Lieutenant-General of his Armies de terre des Armées Navales de France, Gouverneur-Lieutenant-General, representing the person of His Majesty in the French Islands under the wind of America, and adjacent seas (printed Header) Commission signed by Admiral d'ESTAING, made at CAPE (St Domingue) on February 15, 1765. Printed parchment, filled in with ink (26,5 x 40 cm). His Majesty (Louis XV) has chosen Monsieur de NIEL to be provisionally provided with the Place of Ayde Major of the Petite Rivière district. D'ESTAING (1729 - Guillotiné1794) was Vice-Admiral in 1777 during the American War of Independence, Admiral of France in 1792 + Sieur Thomas Adrien NIEL, Knight of the Royal and Military Order of St. Louis, Former Commander of the Battalion of St. Marc, Commander of the Petite Rivière Quarter, Island and Coast of St. Domingue. He was knighted in January 1788.
