Boxing/Arroyo/Turiello/Cerdan. Exceptional lithography of th - Lot 48
Boxing/Arroyo/Turiello/Cerdan. Exceptional lithography of the unforgettable Spanish artist Eduardo Arroyo (1937-2018) representing the Italian middleweight Saverio Turiello (1910-1988), in the pantheon. And in fact, this European champion, who combined marvelously piety and trickery fascinated the artist, madly in love with boxing, much more than a bullfighting art for him. With him, as with Jean Cocteau, boxing finally found its label of "noble art". Here, Eduardo represents "the panther of Milan" at the mythical Vigorelli (hello the record of the hour), probably in June 1939, when at the end of a fight in 15 rounds, the Italian pugilist was dispossessed of his European title by our national Marcel Cerdan. Like Dali, salivating when he talked about the Giants of the road in the 50's in the Pyrenees, Arroyo liked to tell the tricks of the boxers, in particular that of Saverio, who used an unknown talent of ventriloquist, to throw instead of the referee a "break", coming from who knows where, when he was in the ropes. What was going on? Who spoke? And Saverio would pull himself together, and Eduardo would laugh. This work numbered (45/60), and affectionately dedicated by the artist in 1994, is therefore important in more than one way. 46X34. TBE.
