Olympic Games/Helsinki, summer 1952. Curious and rare triang - Lot 270
Olympic Games/Helsinki, summer 1952. Curious and rare triangular badge (isosceles, 4cm) unofficial, but essential, enamelled metal light blue in the center, dark blue in the trident. Indeed, carrying the official mentions "Xvè Olympiade, Helsinki, 1952", it presents in its center the famous trident of a Club Méditarranée, which although having only two years of age (founded in 1950 by the Belgian Gerard Blitz), was mobilized to create an official village during these Games. If it does not display the rings in its center, five golden rings of different sizes overlap however in a funny way, two ears, two eyes, in the middle of a ball !!!! On the back, manufacture by Fraisse-Demey, Paris, and name of L.Dulio. Is it the name of the graphic designer, or that of a basketball player, but this badge, never seen before, reminds us of a key episode in the history of the Olympics and of Club Med. This piece is not mentioned in the precious Elbel catalog. Gaston Meyer, considered as the pope of the Olympic Games, estimated that these Games were the most fraternal that he lived... For ephemeral, that it was, the Club Med is not foreign to this happiness... in full cold war.
