Olympic Games/Athens, 1896/ Amazing woodcut from "l'Illustra - Lot 318
Olympic Games/Athens, 1896/ Amazing woodcut from "l'Illustration", canvas, it tells in 7 drawings, three major episodes of the first renovated Games, the shot put, the discus, and especially the marathon (4 pictures). These scenes are drawn by a famous artist, Raymond de la Nézière (1865-1953), who was on the spot, and who worked according to photos made by his brother Georges (1878-1914). The latter, a student of the Arcueil College, dear to Father Didon, participated in the 400 and 800m qualifications. He was to play a great role in the world of the stammering automobile as an inventor, before falling to his death... With these two brothers, we find the emotion of the beginnings of the Olympic Games and of French sport. 34,5x25.TBE.
