NASA. LARGE FORMAT. HUBBLE TELESCOPE. A butterfly emerges fr - Lot 263
NASA. LARGE FORMAT. HUBBLE TELESCOPE. A butterfly emerges from the disappearance of a star in a planetary nebula. This celestial object looks like a delicate butterfly. But it is far from being serene. What looks like delicate butterfly wings is actually a cauldron of gas heated to nearly 20,000 degrees Celsius. This gas travels through space at a speed of over 950,000 kilometers per hour, which is fast enough to travel from the Earth to the Moon in 24 minutes! A dying star, once five times the mass of the Sun, is at the center of this fury. It has ejected its gas envelope and is now releasing a stream of ultraviolet radiation that causes the rejected material to glow. This object is an example of a planetary nebula, so named because many of them have a round, planet-like appearance when viewed through a small telescope. 2009.period chromogenic print. Numbering in the margin on the front. 40.6 X 40.6CM with margins.
