NASA. LARGE FORMAT. The Crab Nebula reveals exceptional brig - Lot 308
NASA. LARGE FORMAT. The Crab Nebula reveals exceptional bright neon colors in this photographic image. This unusual image was produced by combining data from the HUBBLE telescope with ground-based telescopes, each of which collected data in a specific radio regime (Red, Yellow, Blue and Violet). The Crab Nebula is located at 6 500 light-years from Earth in the constellation Taurus. It is the result of the explosion of a supernova that was observed by Chinese astronomers in 1054. At its center is a pulsar: a super-dense neutron star, which rotates once every 33 milliseconds and emits rotating beams of radio waves and visible light, similar to those of a lighthouse. Surrounding the pulsar is a mixture of material, some of which was expelled from the star before it went supernova, and the rest ejected during the explosion itself. Fast-moving particle winds escape from the neutron star and energize the dust and gas around it. These different layers and complexities of the nebula can be observed in all different wavelengths of light. Period chromogenic print. Numbering on the front. Legend on label on the back. 40,6 x 40,6CM with margins.
