NASA Antoine de Saint Exupéry: signed black & white photo accompanied by the model of Saint Exupéry's P38 Lightning reco; a metal badge of the FAFL (Free French Forces) and a "scavenger" of the FAFL. in a 26 X 32 cm box with gold closure. - On July 31, 1944 Saint-Exupéry, writer, poet, aviator and French reporter, took off from the nearby airport of Poretta. He flies at the controls of the F-5B-1-LO, twin-engine P-38 Lightning in air reconnaissance version. He left the field at 8:25 am. His mission consisted of a series of photographic reconnaissance flights in order to draw precise maps of the country, which would be very useful for the upcoming landing in Provence, scheduled for August 15. He was alone on board, his plane was not armed and he carried fuel for a six-hour flight. At 8:30 a.m., his last radar echo signaled him. The mission started. Saint-Exupéry did not come back; the fuel time was over and he was reported missing. * Black and white photo size : 18 X 24 cm slightly yellowed with some foxing, dedicated by Antoine de Saint Exupéry. * Badge of the F.A.F.L.: format 3,5 X 7 cm. * Scavenger format: 1.5 X 5 cm. * P-38 Lightning : wingspan 22 cm - Length 16 cm, fuselage 7 cm.
