Madame CAMPAN (Jeanne Louise GENET) 1752 - 1822 - Lot 266
Madame CAMPAN (Jeanne Louise GENET) 1752 - 1822 - Reader of the daughters of Louis XV, secretary and confidante of Marie-Antoinette, she directed the educational house of the Legion of Honor in Écouen. Autograph letter signed December 10, 1805, to a Lady. 2 pages large in-8°: "I received, Madam, three months ago a work of medicine decorated with the most brilliant imagination and which bore the name of the father of your dear muse. I have read this work almost entirely, and nothing makes an author better known, I will receive his visit with great pleasure. Your little one was very sad to see herself separated from her dear mother, the experience I must have acquired in directing almost always a hundred young girls for twelve years has shown me, which is easily imagined, that this sensitivity is the prerogative of the best subjects. I therefore dare to hope for much... Please count on my most assiduous care..."
