AISNE. VAUXBUIN (02). 2 Autograph letters signed by Madame L - Lot 357
AISNE. VAUXBUIN (02). 2 Autograph letters signed by Madame Louise BRAYER de SAINT-LÉON (1765-1835) distinguished novelist, written from VAUXBUIN on April 7, 1835 and March 1, 1836, in-8°: "...Ah! My poor Berthevin, how I pity you if you only have the inhabitants of the Soissonais region as subscribers to your work; for it is not among them that Literature and Science have established their Empire. Determined nevertheless to continue the charitable acts of our inappreciable friend as the purest tribute to his venerated memory, it is only with the strictest economy mixed with privations that we manage to barely make ends meet during the year... since the invasion of Cholera we have been obliged to establish a new cemetery in VAUXBUIN; it is there that our beloved angel is deposited... we, as well as two other families of the Village, have subscribed to establish a wall... however, I personally want to subscribe to your work..."
