NORTH. LILLE August 13, 1848. Revolt of the WORKERS OF THE F - Lot 384
NORTH. LILLE August 13, 1848. Revolt of the WORKERS OF THE FILATURES. Address of the prefect of North A. DURAND ST-AMAND: "Citizens. For several days steps have been made by workmen near the manufacturers spinners of cotton to prevent that, henceforth, only one workman is employed, as in the past, to make work two trades at the same time. It is announced that these steps must be renewed tomorrow Monday and that they must be accompanied by acts of violence. The Prefect of the North likes to believe that these noises are not founded. The Workers of LILLE know that any violence is a crime, and that a crime is an act unworthy of free citizens. All the difficulties which can divide the bosses and the workers must be carried either before the Council of the prud'hommes, or before the magistrates... The law forbids assemblies, threats, coalitions... Long live the Republic!" - Cupboard (63 x 47 cm) Condition B+
