Large and strong in-8 full brown morocco, large gilt frame on the boards of straight gilt fillets or forming ribbon bows, spine with 4 nerves, boxes decorated with gilt fillets, fillet on the edges, gilt edges on witnesses, inner border of gilt fillets, lining and endpapers of moire with floral motifs, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved, lined slipcase (René Kieffer) Illustrated with 41 compositions by Luc Olivier Merson, etched by Carlo Chessa (1855-1912) and printed in intaglio. First illustrated edition of this vast dramatic composition (published in 1828) which evokes the insurrection of the serfs against the nobility in the XIV th century. Limited edition of 289 numbered copies, this one on Arches (n°80) including in addition to the final state of the etchings, 3 additional states of the etchings. A superb copy.
