François Massialot (1660 - 1733) was an "officer of the mouth" with a well-established reputation, which allowed him to manage the kitchens of the King's brother and some great lords of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. His first work, our copy, is divided into two parts, one of which is a dictionary, which is mainly intended for professional cooks. At the end of the volume he gives a table of dishes. This work dates for the first edition from June 28, 1691. Our second edition was printed at the end of 1692. A very nice copy as much for its binding as for its paper. Two bookplates. Very RARE second edition. Very good condition of the binding as well as of the paper, which presents some small scattered scratches, "smudges" of the ink that was used to sign the name of Gaby on the title page.
