BRILLAT-SAVARIN, Jean-Anthelme: The physiology of taste or m - Lot 43
BRILLAT-SAVARIN, Jean-Anthelme: The physiology of taste or meditations of transcendental gastronomy. Theoretical, historical and current work; dedicated to the Parisian gastronomes. Paris, L'Art et le Livre, 1926, 2 vol. gd. in-8, br. with color illus. cover, in cardboard folders and silent emboitage outside paper "truffe" clear and orange modern interior, XLII - 252 - 300 pp. not trimmed, decorated with 100 drawings in-text and 24 plates out of text of Pierre NOURY, lithographed by J. Mourlot, copy reserved on vergé Lafuma to Mr. René SCHOELLER and with dispatch of Georges Crès. A fundamental book among the gastronomic bibliography of the 19th century. Very beautiful drawings in black by Pierre Noury ( 1984 - ? ) great French painter, engraver, writer. The editions "Les Arts et le Livre" belong, since 1925 to Gorges Crès (1875 - 1935) great Parisian publisher; taken over by his brother-in-law, Henri Paul Jonquière which will become in 1928 "Les Oeuvres Représentatives". This copy was reserved for Mr. René SCHOELLER, father of Guy Schoeller, big boss of the Hachette messaging service, which controlled almost the totality of the book supply in France. The dedication is made by a great publisher (on the decline!) to the greatest boss of the "book" in France and especially bibliophile: "Exemplaire Réservé à Monsieur Schoeller avec l'amitié reconnaissants de l'éditeur - signature G. Crès". Very nice work with signature and "symbolic" provenance. RARE. Small damages to the covers, cover very slightly faded, very good condition of the wrapping; very good condition in general.
