Paris, chez l'auteur, rue Neuve-St.-Roch, n° 41 and Galerie de Bossange Père, rue de Richelieu, n° 60, 1828, second edition, revised and corrected, 2 vol. in-8, half dark brown calf, white and brown marbled paper boards, cold fleurons, gilt filets, tomaison, author and title on smooth spine, period binding with a very good restoration of the spine, Volume 1 : LXXXIII - (1 bl.) - 394 pp, frontispiece in the author's hand "A l'emblème du goût" decorated with nb. drawings and 12 folding plates, Volume 2 : 435 - (1 bl.) pp. with 28 folding plates, that is to say 41 folding plates of which 40 folding plates with 182 subjects engraved by Carême, a few beautiful caps, Carême's signature, slightly erased by time, on the bottom of the page of his biography, "A M. Boucher, controleur de la Maison du Prince de Talleyrand-Périgord", Preface, Preliminary speech, Division of the work, Vocabulary of words for the spelling of menus, Tables of chapters and summaries, one in each volume. Antonin Carême (1784 - 1833), a genius cook and an outstanding gastronome, needs no introduction. Author of "Le Pâtissier pittoresque", "Le Maître-d'hôtel français" and "Le Cuisinier parisien ou l'art de la cuisine française au 19e siècle". Our copy is the second edition, revised and corrected by Carême, and remains the best of all the reprints and even the first of 1815, because the most complete! Our copy bears the author's autograph signature. Well complete with the frontispiece and the 40 folding plates drawn by Carême himself! This second edition is EXTREMELY RARE! Presented in a skillfully restored contemporary binding and with the plates in very good condition. Good general condition of both volumes; minor spotting on the spine; a few small scattered spots of foxing, especially on the paper edges; the plates are in very good condition, also with very small spots of foxing on the edges.
