CHATIN, Adolphe: The Truffle. Botany of the truffle and truffle plants. Soil - climates - producing countries - chemical composition - cultivation - harvesting - trade - frauds - food qualities - preserves - culinary preparations. Paris, Librairie J. - B. Baillière et Fils, 1892, ORIGINAL EDITION, in-8, full black percaline, gilt title on smooth spine, modern binding, XII - 370 pp, illustrated with 15 plates in chromolythography drawn by E. BOUDIER, the condition of the book is as follows: very numerous stamps in purple of "Marcel Filet - barques en tous genres - Limeuil (Dordogne)", fortunately not on the truffle plates; small black ink stains on the edge of pages 41/44 and 70/80; 4 traces of old stickers between the title page and the author's bibliography; title page soiled with a stamp; missing the first page of the publisher's catalog; BUT, the plates 5 - 6 and 7, being missing, have been replaced by 3 color photocopies (ditto for the "explanations of plate 6 and 7); some plates are faded with some soiling, untrimmed and faded edges BUT ...This book is very rare and much sought after by mycologists, truffle lovers and culinary bibliophiles. The author (1813 - 1901), botanist, was president of the Academy of Sciences. This book is the development of his treatise entitled "the truffle. Study of the general conditions of the truffle production" of 1869, in in-12 of Bouchard-Huzard including 3 plates. Our copy, in spite of the defaults mentioned above, remains VERY RARE.
