LORRY, Antoine, Charles: Essai sur les aliments pour servir de commentaires aux lvres Diététiques d'Hippocrate. Paris, 1754, ORIGINAL edition, Vincent, in-12, full contemporary speckled calf, spine ribbed, gilt fleurons with flowers and deer, gilt title on burgundy morocco title-piece, XXIV - 440 - (4)pp, red edges. First edition of the greatest rarity. The author (1726-1783) practiced medicine in Paris, one of the doctors of King Louis XV. He was considered the founder of French dermatology. It is about food from a general point of view and then studied their relationship with places, seasons, climates, societies. This copy bears the ex-libris of the Châteua des Ormes Library (86220 Les Ormes in Vienne occupied since the XVIIIth century by the illustrious VOYER de PAULMY d'ARGENSON family, who were ministers and ambassadors of Louiss XIV and Lousi XV). The name of the author does not appear on the title page but in the dedication to Mosneigneur le maréchal Duc de Richelieu. Several later (1757 and 1781). Very rare and sought after. Nice copy.
