CHRÉTIENNE D'AGUERRE, Countess of SAULT. (1553 - 1611) Christian, from Lorraine, was orphaned in 1559. She married in 1571 Antoine de Blanchefort, heir of the Créquy family. She remarried in 1578 to François-Louis de Montauban d'Agoult, Count of Sault, from a large family in Provence. She animates the Aix League which counts in the history of Provence at the time of the wars of religion - Letter signed "CHRÉTIENNE D'AGUERRE" on June 29, 1590, to the consuls of LA CADIÈRE (Provence, auj. Var). 1 page (32 x 22,5 cm). Fragment of white paper at the back of the letter, without harm. Letter having for goal to reassure the inhabitants of La Cadière on the imminence of a next attack of the enemies: " I received your letter and seen what you mandez in the doubt where you are that the enemies come to attack you, what I cannot believe. We know very well that the enemy is not in a position to carry cannon and that most of his forces must return to "Disme" (Digne) to help Barcelonnette (04) which is under siege...". She thus advises them to "keep themselves from taking fright" and specifies that "it is necessary to believe that our troops have everywhere the eye with what it is necessary and great well you would see some danger..." (On September 18, 1591, the Duke of Lesdiguières, leader of the Huguenots in Dauphiné, defeated the Duke Charles-Emmanuel 1st of Savoy at the Battle of Pontcharra (Isère). On October 21, 1591, Lesdiguières took back Barcelonnette (04) and Digne).
