COMTESSE DE LAVALETTE, Émilie Louise de BEAUHARNAIS (1781-1855) was the daughter of Marquis François de Beauharnais, and his wife and cousin Marie-Anne-Françoise de Beauharnais. By her father, she is the granddaughter of François de Beauharnais, Governor of Martinique. By her mother, she descended from Claude de Beauharnais, Count of Roches-Baritaud. Émilie de Beauharnais is the cousin of Hortense Queen of Holland, of Eugene Viceroy of Italy and of Stéphanie de Beauharnais Grand Duchess of Baden. On April 22, 1798, she married Antoine Marie Chamans (Director of the Post Office of the Empire), future Count of Lavalette, condemned to death in 1815 (Mme de Beauharnais took part in her husband's escape in 1815), and pardoned in 1822. She is the niece by marriage of the Empress Josephine - Letter A.S. without place or date (the 13th) addressed to M. Bernardet hotel of New-York at Mrs. de Carl in Le Havre.
