Julien de LA ROCHENOIRE, Painter, engraver and Art critic (1 - Lot 464
Julien de LA ROCHENOIRE, Painter, engraver and Art critic (1820-1899) Letter A.S. of SAINTE-ADRESSE (76) on September 25, 1878. 4 pages in-8° : " Dear and excellent friend. It is in St Address that arrives to me the announcement of our Exhibition 1878. I am very happy for the City of ROUEN and the Artists. But what a hassle... Before leaving Paris and according to your advice, I have prepared four medium-sized paintings which I hope, by the care I have taken, will satisfy you. They will be easier, as you tell me, to place. I also had the idea of sending you my painting from the last Salon, which had some success there. My "Bull tormented by flies" is two meters by 1 m 60 cm, but I did not want to do anything without consulting you. All the more so since I was not angry to compete for our first medal; if you think it is useful to the glory of our old Normandy, you will tell me. As I know that you are interested in it, my daughter is still doing well and continues to feed her Baby and so we are once again free of fears and sorrows. We think that Mademoiselle Léonie's health is better. We wish to see you well again on the day of the opening of your Exhibition... We expect you at the Universal Exhibition..."
