Provenance: private collection, Asnières-sur-Seine Mela Muter, pseudonym of Maria Melania Muttermilch born Klingsland, is a French painter of Polish origin, who in the inter-war period had great success with her expressionist paintings. At that time, she met Parisian intellectuals such as the pacifist activist Raymond Lefebvre, the writers Henri Barbusse and Romain Rolland, the architect Auguste Perret, the composers Maurice Ravel and Érik Satie, or the poet Rainer Maria Rilke.
