Cycling/Nail puller/Cavalade/Toulouse/Puncture/Clermont/Lith - Lot 65
Cycling/Nail puller/Cavalade/Toulouse/Puncture/Clermont/Lithographic poster: "Arrache-clous Cavalade, la certitude de ne jamais crever, Toulouse". The devil can throw nails if he likes, but with this nail puller, who cares? By the great and forgotten Jan Metteix, 1914. Born in Clermont-Ferrand in 1873, this artist, who quickly became a Toulousian, was as charismatic as he was eclectic. Inspired by the Tour de France, but above all by the richness of Toulousian life, he created works in the fields of opera, literature, science and politics, above all as a caricaturist or poster artist. He died in the pink city in 1945. The city where he grew up has made a point of preserving his work. This poster testifies to a time when all means were good, both to win and to harm the "madmen on wheels"... The nail-throwers were never caught, although they were present on several occasions, including in modern times. The nail puller, the lightning rod of champions, was on sale at its inventor's shop, as indicated: 75 bd Carnot, Toulouse. 77X57. BE, despite a few traces of moisture. A piquant testimony to heroic times.
