Cycling/Privat/Polledri/Abran/LAfourcade/Frank Henry/Landern - Lot 127
Cycling/Privat/Polledri/Abran/LAfourcade/Frank Henry/Landerneau/Boulogne sur Seine. An astonishing poster by the eclectic champion-journalist-caricaturist-unionist Gonzague-Privat: "The peasant with his Sovereign is sovereign...The Sovereign-Violet...". A slightly outdated image (1913), with its gallery of portraits at the bottom, it offers us a fine overview of the belle époque, featuring Abran, the Tour starter, and champions Lafourcade (1st in the Aubisque in 1910), Polledri (Italian champion), and the "amateur" bulldog from Landerneau, Franck Henry (Paul Ruinart's protégé), Paul Didier, the stayer... Half of the heroes in this image did not escape the clutches of the Great War. 36,5x55. Average condition, restorations in particular at bottom left, a little faded. Note that Rettich took to the skies in 1912 on this machine chiseled in Boulogne-sur-Seine (not yet Billancourt)... A heritage piece in many ways. For connoisseurs.
