Cycling/Riviere/Rapha/Record/Saint-Etienne/Gem. A surprising - Lot 129
Cycling/Riviere/Rapha/Record/Saint-Etienne/Gem. A surprisingly little-known poster of the terrible champion Roger Riviere (1936-1976) from Saint-Etienne. "Rapha, vin doux naturel, "de Rapha, je rafole", the favorite of Roger Rivière, record-holder of the hour..." The champion, molded in a handsome red tracksuit by Géminiani, with rainbow piping, smiles as a three-time world pursuit champion from 1957 to 59. 1959, TBE, canvas, 80x58. Double world hour record-holder in 1957 and '58, winner of the European Amateur Tour in 1956, he was 4th in the 1959 Tour won by Bahamontes after beating Anquetil in the two in-line clm. Were it not for a catastrophic crash on the Col du Perjuret in 1960, he was well on the way to winning his first Tour de France. The bike is a Raphaël Géminiani.
