Omnisport/Paris-Vélo/Figaro. Rare canvas lithograph initiale - Lot 296
Omnisport/Paris-Vélo/Figaro. Rare canvas lithograph initialed right HP for Hermann-Paul (1864-1940), Le grinçant caricaturiste attitré du "Figaro": "Le Journal des Sports, ex-Paris-Vélo, 26 rue Drouot, au Figaro, with portraits of a rider with monocle, a cyclo with TCF badge, a bovine and helmeted footballer, a sea wolf, and a mischievous fencer...". This series of strong reels clearly attests to the fact that in 1897, the new pink title, which absorbed "Le Paris-Vélo" (also pink) had indeed become omnisport, with cycling obviously now accounting for only a fifth of the subjects. Beware, it has several editions and arrives before the others (a nod to Giffard's green "Vélo", which on trial had contributed to the obliteration of "Le Paris-Vélo"). 86X1,23. FINE. Extremely rare.
