Georges CLEMENCEAU (1841-1929, politician) / Autograph carte - Lot 173
Georges CLEMENCEAU (1841-1929, politician) / Autograph carte de visite signed (initial) in his name, addressed to Madame Louis Barthou (née Alice Mayeur, 1873-1930, married in 1895, she had an only son, died for France in 1914) - Louis Barthou kept it in a small folder which he had captioned "Clemenceau - carte aimable à la Patronne", it can be dated to the 1910s, when Barthou was a minister in the Clemenceau government, and it reveals all the spirituality of the "Tiger": "With what good grace you mock me, dear Madame. You overwhelm me with astonishing flowers, and it's your husband you're taking to Venice, contrary to all tradition. While there's still time, would you like me to pass him the flowers and take his place in the gondola of sentiments with which I lay at your feet the thanks of a pure heart and the tributes of a troubled soul".
