CINEMA - REGISSEUR-ACCESSOIRISTE / Interesting archives of G - Lot 341
CINEMA - REGISSEUR-ACCESSOIRISTE / Interesting archives of Géo Landry (1897-1975), known as a chansonnier and stage director (notably for the big productions at the Cirque d'Hiver), whom we discover here as one of the great film props managers of the 40s and 50s, since the most important film productions called on his services - he therefore worked with the greatest directors for cult films - These archives are a memory for the History of French Cinema, They're also fascinating, as you scroll through them you'll see images of the sets, the atmosphere and the actors (for "Topaze", for example, you can see the scene in Topaze's classroom, thanks to the famous maxims that adorned the walls: "L'argent ne fait pas le bonheur" ("Money can't buy happiness"), etc.).) - Géo Sandry has classified these archives by film, in random folders (reused double-page spreads from magazines), although some remain "loose", in "its own juice" (we estimate a total of over 2,000 documents, 25 cm high) - The files compiled for each film are of varying importance, including complete scripts with lists of props and costumes for each day of shooting, work schedules, purchase orders to suppliers, restitutions, invoices, lists of deposit checks, stage managers' instructions, with numerous production company letterheads - As far as costumes are concerned, specialized rental companies are usually used, but fitting appointments can be found at certain tailors, furniture is also rented, and for props and scenery we have invoices for skulls or a stuffed cat, as well as hearses or antiques from Madeleine Castaing - The files can contain all kinds of documents: authorization from the Préfecture de Police to shoot on the public highway, drawings of props to be made, declarations of breakage, damage, loss, a vase an actress wants to buy, very numerous business cards from suppliers of all kinds with lists, etc. - List of films: "Sous la Griffe" (1935, Sigma Films); "Rigolboche" (1936, Sigma Films); "Mariage d'Amour" (1941, Continental Films); "Le Moussaillon" (1941, Selb Films Production); "Le Billard" (1942, Continental Films); "Défense d'Aimer" (1942, Continental Films); "L'Assassin habite au 21" (1942, Continental Films); "Le Sucre" (1943, Continental Films); "Le Corbeau" (1943, Continental Films); "25 Ans de Bonheur" (1943, Continental Films); "Adrien" (1943, Continental Films); "Zoo" (1945, Films Eclair-Journal); "Cécile est morte" (1944, Continental Films, Maigret); "Madame et son Flirt" (1945, Lutetia Films); "Coïncidences" (1946, Equipe Artisanale Cinématographique); "Le Gardian" (1946, Lutetia Films); "6 Heures à perdre" (1946, Pathé-Cinéma); "Danger de Mort" (1947, Pathé-Cinéma); "Tous les Deux" (1948, Celia Films); "Le Bal des Pompiers" (1948, MAIC); "Docteur Louise" (1949, Fiat Films); "La Porte d'Or" (1949, UDIF); "Tire au Flanc" (1949, Films Fernand Rivers); "L'Amour de Paille" (1950, Films Ariane); "L'Amant de Paille" (1950, Ariane Films); "Topaze" (1950, Films Marcel Pagnol); "L'Homme de Joie" (1950, Ariane Films); "Les Mains sales" (1951, Films Fernand Rivers); "Quatre heures du Matin" (1951, Films Fernand Rivers); "Seul dans Paris" (1951, Films Marcel Pagnol) - It should be noted that Géo Sandry was often employed during the Occupation by Continental Films, a French production company with German capital created in 1940 by Joseph Goebbels to control French film production. In these archives we find a complete block of this company's restitution vouchers (accessories) and a copy of the questionnaire artists had to fill in to apply (in question 7: "Aryan? ") - Géo Sandry was active in various unions, and we find a large file of around 80 information sheets (biography and filmography) on directors, from the Syndicat Général de la Production Cinématographique Française, which he updated by hand and completed in the early '50s (René Clair, René Clément, Georges Clouzot, Yves Allégret, Jacques Feder etc.).) - A document from the Syndicat des Techniciens de la Production Cinématographe gives minimum salaries for each category in 1950, e.g. the fixed price for a film for a director was 750,000 fr - Among the bulk of various documents, we find an autograph manuscript by Géo Sandry "Monographie du régisseur d'extérieurs" and a typescript "La télévision a 20 ans".
