MERCEDES W 196 R F1 - SINGLE HULL IN 2 PARTS.
This extremely rare piece, consisting of a 2-part polished cast aluminum hull, was intended for (wealthy) radio control enthusiasts. Sold by the Parisian store "À La Source des Inventions" (1906-1988), as the basis for the famous "Streamliner", it could be finished using the spare parts this store offered its customers: motors from 2.5 to 5 cm3, wheels, tires, steering wheel, shafts and axles, etc. A glance at the 1957 in-house catalog clearly shows that this Mercedes was not intended for children: it cost 15,000 francs when fully assembled! The 2-piece aluminum body offered in this lot alone cost 4,000 francs that year. This is an authentic museum piece. Approximately 1/12th scale. Length 30 cm, width 12 cm, weight 730 gr. Condition A/°
