"SOCIÉTÉ VIENNOISE DES AMIS DE LA CONSTITUTION - VIENNE (38) 21 Avril 1790" (Vignette) - 2-page in-4° printed letter: "Copy of the Adresse du bataillon des Volontaires du Département de l'Isère, en garnison à Vienne, envoyée à l'Assemblée Nationale et au Ministre de la guerre, le 21 décembre 1791." It reads: "Legislators, the rallying trumpet has sounded; Bellona is calling her warriors; the flag of Liberty will at last be unfurled, and the pride of tyrants will soon be buried with them. To avenge the outraged Nation, is the universal cry; our weapons are its echo...the battalion of Volunteers of the Département de l'ISÈRE burns to run...The country where Bayard was born will produce emulators worthy of his glory... It is on the banks of the Rhine that the first blows will be struck; it is under the orders of Rochambeau, Luckner and La Fayette that we must march... Can those who fight for freedom be defeated?..."
