Cycling/ Zimmerman/ Hem/ Vélodrome de la Seine / Levallois/ - Lot 110
Cycling/ Zimmerman/ Hem/ Vélodrome de la Seine / Levallois/ Méline. Sheet of original press drawings for the historic outing of the great A.A.Zimmerman on the Vélodrome de la Seine in Levallois during his historic 1894 tour, by Georges Hem (Indian ink, fine signature). On this plate, with the artist's handwritten captions, we find a little-seen Zim, the civilian... Although amputated from Zim's portrait (top left), drawing number 1, we are treated to an essential reportage, that of the champion without a bike, without a jersey, the one Desgrange said could look like a painter. And indeed, in these four sensational images, we discover a shy, borrowed stranger... Recognized by spectators in spite of himself, he forces himself to go and greet them, his exploits initialled, he slips away to escape the glory !!!! Fortunately, we get a glimpse of the myth through a racing image, that of his adversary Méline, who, beaten to the punch, touches the champion as one would touch a relic, a sacred image !!!! In the intimacy of a myth. 50X32. With the technical characteristics of an original from the large press of 1894.
