MAGHREB, 18th-19th century (reassembled in the 20th century) - Lot 337
MAGHREB, 18th-19th century (reassembled in the 20th century)
Koranic manuscript
Ink, polychrome pigments and gold on paper, embossed leather binding
24.5 x 2.5 x 19 cm
This manuscript is written in black Maghribi script on 14 lines per page, within polychrome framing fillets, with rosettes and vocalizations in colored inks, and titles and marginal rosettes in polychrome and gold.
This is a compilation of suras from a Qur'an, including parts of suras IX, X and XI, as well as suras II and III. The first and last pages feature the same illuminated decoration and text (one of the two pages is later, probably added when the manuscript was reassembled).
