NASA. Gemini 4 mission. Historic spacewalk by the 1st American Ed. White on June 5, 1965. The Gemini 4 mission is the first of the space age to have an international audience. During this mission, the American White stepped out into space, using the HHSMU (Hand Held Self Maneuvering Unit), a gas-jet pistol. McDivitt took a dozen photographs that would later become famous in the history of the conquest of space. Here, Ed.
