NASA. This vast, undulating structure in the Perseus constel - Lot 207
NASA. This vast, undulating structure in the Perseus constellation features a small bubble at its center, inflated by the spasms of heavy, newly-formed stars. A much larger bubble with age, located further down, is traversed by a tendril of gas that weaves its way through its essentially empty interior. Along this dusty thread, stars sprout at the ends of the columns of matter, like the famous "pillars of creation" observed by the Hubble Space Telescope in the Eagle Nebula. In the middle, to the right and away from the fray, shines an older star cluster that has shed its green shroud of PAHs, chemical compounds found both in space and on Earth. Beneath this collection of jewels, hydrogen atoms energized by starlight emit a pinkish glow. This hue, common to many nebulae, also appears red to our eyes in visible light. 2010.period chromogenic print. Legend on back label. 20.4 x 25.5CM with margins.
