NASA. LARGE FORMAT. Self-portrait of NASA's CURIOSITY Mars R - Lot 237
NASA. LARGE FORMAT. Self-portrait of NASA's CURIOSITY Mars Rover showing the vehicle at the "Namib Dune", where the rover's activities included scuffing the dune with a wheel and taking sand samples for laboratory analysis. The scene combines 57 images taken on January 19, 2016, during the 1,228th Martian day, or sol, of Curiosity's work on Mars. The camera used is the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) located at the end of the rover's robotic arm. The Namib Dune is part of the "Bagnold Dune Field", a field of dark sand located on the northwest flank of Mount Sharp. Images taken from orbit show that the dunes in the Bagnold field are moving at a rate of around 1 metre per Earth year. The view does not include the rover's arm. Wrist movements and turret rotations on the arm enabled MAHLI to acquire images of the mosaic. The arm was placed outside the shot on the images, or parts of images, that were used in this mosaic.period chromogenic print. Legend on back label. 60.9 x 60.9CM with margins.
