NASA. A beautiful photographic observation of the planet Jupiter made by the HUBBLE telescope. The photograph was taken in multi-wavelength ultraviolet/visible/near-infrared light and gives an entirely new view of the giant planet. Hubble's near-infrared imaging, combined with ultraviolet views, provides a unique panchromatic image that gives an insight into the altitude and haze and particle distribution of the planet. These images complement Hubble's visible-light images, which show the changing configuration of clouds. In this photo, the high-altitude parts of Jupiter's atmosphere, particularly above the poles, are red, as atmospheric particles absorb ultraviolet light. Conversely, the blue areas represent the ultraviolet light reflected by the planet. Legend on back label. 20.4 x 25.5CM with margins.
