LANGUEDOC. 1750. BANISHMENT OF BEGGARS. "Déclaration du ROY (Louis XV), concernant les Mendiants". Given at FONTAINEBLEAU (77) on October 20, 1750. in 5 Articles: "1°) Enjoin all Beggars, both men and women, to take a job incessantly to subsist, if they do not prefer to retire to the place of their birth or domicile... 3°) Beggars who are arrested asking for alms with insolence, those who falsely claim to be soldiers, who carry leaves that are not true, feigning illnesses,... those who are found armed with rifles, pistols, swords, iron batons or other weapons, those who are found scourged with a fleur-de-lis, the letter V.
