CÔTE-D'OR. AGRICULTURAL CALAMITY of 1785. BOURGOGNE BRESSE: "Arrêt du conseil d'Etat du Roi, concernant la rareté des fourrages, les moyens de pourvoir à la conservation des Bestiaux." May 17, 1785. "His Majesty (LOUIS XVI), always sensitive to the needs of his subjects, and particularly attentive to those of his Farmers, has occupied himself with all the means to alleviate this temporary calamity, and to obviate the unfortunate consequences which could result to the detriment of Agriculture: with this in mind, it has resolved to suspend for some time the enforcement of ordinances prohibiting vain grazing in the woods of its Domains; to renew regulations aimed at reducing consumption harmful to the reproduction of the species; to announce rewards and incentives to encourage the preservation of more livestock and the enrolment of more students; and to grant all types of assistance it deems necessary...".
