AGRICULTURAL CALAMITY of 1785. "De Par Monseigneur LE COMTE D'ARTOIS." - Extract from the Registres du Conseil de Monseigneur Le Comte d'ARTOIS (Future CHARLES X, brother of the King), held at VERSAILLES on May 22, 1785 - "Following the King's Ordinance of the 17th, concerning vain grazing in the woods of His Majesty's Domains... in order to remedy the shortage of Fodder caused by the aridity of the season. Monseigneur would have recognized that it was as much a matter of his justice as of his benevolence, to provide the same relief to the Vassals of his Apanage... Monseigneur allows the Vassals of his Apanage of his Patrimonial Lands, to send or to have their Horses and Horned Beasts driven only, in the Forest Woods depending on them, to graze them there until next October 1st...". Vignette Royale. Printed in ANGOULÊME (Charente), by Claude Rézé, Monseigneur's printer. 1785. Cupboard (41 x 34) Condition B
