GARD. 1796. "Proclamation from Hilarion PUGET, Divisional General commanding the 9th Military Division, to the young men of the Requisition, to the Volunteers who have not joined their Battalions." "A decree issued by Government Commissioner FRÉRON, states: From 25 Pluviôse (Year 4, February 14, 1796), military commanders will have their parents present the certificates of Volunteers or Young Requisitioners, attesting to their arrival at their Battalions; failing which, they will garrison the said parents' homes to a greater or lesser extent." "At the head of the public force of this Department, I will be charged with this decree. Young citizens..., you will no longer want to be cowardly Sybarites; you will increase the ranks of our brothers in arms; you will share the laurels with which they have covered themselves since the beginning of the Revolution, by fighting for the triumph of Liberty and the establishment of the Republic; you will finally contribute to forcing the enemy to ask us for peace..."
