NASA. DEEP SPACE. LARGE FORMAT. HUBBLE TELESCOPE. This super - Lot 299
NASA. DEEP SPACE. LARGE FORMAT. HUBBLE TELESCOPE. This superb deep-space photograph taken by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope shows a spiral galaxy 17 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices (Berenice's Hair). This galaxy is often referred to as the "black eye" or "evil eye", due to the dark band of dust that sweeps across one side of its bright nucleus. This galaxy is known to astronomers for its strange internal motion. Gas from the outer regions of this galaxy and gas from its inner regions rotate in opposite directions, which could be linked to a recent merger. New stars form in the region where the counter-rotating gas collides. This galaxy was first discovered in 1779 by English astronomer Edward Pigott. Numbering on front. Legend on back label. 40.6 x 40.6CM with margins.
