Two illustrated folios from a cosmography book Polychrome and gold pigments on paper Iran, 18th - 19th century Pages: 26.6 x 19.1 cm and 26.3 x 19.6 cm These two folios are taken from a Persian cosmography manuscript, probably copied in the 18th - 19th centuries in the Astarabad region of Iran. On the first folio of this manuscript describing the Universe, a figure is depicted in a landscape shooting an arrow at a dragon wrapped around a tree, with a 7-line text at the top. The text on the reverse is spread over 19 lines. The second page features a palace scene. Two figures in the center recline in a bed, while to the right a prince stands, aiming his bow at a dragon depicted to the left of the scene. The text at the bottom is spread over 6 lines. On the reverse, the text is also written in cursive in black ink, with a larger title in red in the center. (Wear)
