PESTE EN LANGUEDOC of 1722. Letter signed Le Duc de ROQUELAURE, Montpellier (34) December 10, 1723, to M. de BRETEUIL. 2 folio pages: "Les bons témoignages, Monsieur, qui m'ont été rendus par M. d'IVERNY Maréchal de Camp, during the time he was employed in GÉVAUDAN on the occasion of the Contagion, of the manner in which Sieur DELOUZE Aide-Major of the Ville d'ALAIS (Alès, Gard) whom he had brought with him, served in that country in all that was entrusted to him, engage me to beg you to kindly grant the honor of your protection to the said Sieur DELOUZE who has done his duty no less in the Ville d'Alais, during the time it was attacked by this cruel illness, and to have the goodness to employ you to obtain for him the restoration of the pension he had before he was placed, to give him the means to subsist, his appointements as Ayde-major being very modest..." Gaston Jean Baptiste Antoine, Duc de ROQUELAURE (1656-1738) Governor of Languedoc, became Marshal of France in 1724.
