HAUT-RHIN. 1798. PRISONER ESCAPE. "Extract from the register of public sessions of the central administration of the HAUT-RHIN department, held in COLMAR (68) on 6 Prairial An 6 (25 May 1798). Bureau Militaire et de Police N°12652 - concerning prisoner escapes entrusted to the Gendarmerie during transfers from one prison to another. "Heads of gangs of murderers covered in all crimes, already condemned to capital punishment, are returning to society to commit greater crimes, by which he instructs the administration, to request the National Guard to, in this concert with the Gendarmerie Brigade, guard the prisoners who, on their passage, are deposited in a prison, to stay there until the Gendarmerie Brigade is relieved by the one responsible for making the prisoners continue on their way".
